A Visual Cylinder Inspection (aka vis) checks for rust, cracks, corrosion, wear, and other damage to your tank. Yearly inspections help keep your cylinders safe and in top shape.
Visual Inspections may include eddy current testing which is a nondestructive electromagnetic testing method used to detect flaws in conductive materials like the threads of an aluminum cylinder.
Some cylinders manufactured prior to 1990 were made with aluminum alloy 6531 which may be susceptible to Sustained Load Cracking (SLC). All cylinders made with alloy 6531 require eddy current testing as part of their visual inspection and hydrostatic requalification. Read more about SLC Read more about SLC.
